HOW WE VOICE A MOTION COMIC — START TO FINISH
The Process
Voicing a motion comic is a unique art form that sits between animation dubbing and audiobook narration. Here's how we approach each project at VIYH Studio.
1. Script Analysis
Before anyone steps into the booth, we break down the script panel by panel. We identify the emotional arc of each scene, note any action sequences that need effort sounds, and map out character interactions.
2. Character Design
Each character gets a voice profile — their vocal range, speech patterns, accent if any, and emotional baseline. We create reference clips that the whole team can hear before recording begins.
3. Recording Sessions
We record in focused sessions, usually tackling one character at a time. This lets each actor fully inhabit their role without breaking character. We always record extra takes for key dramatic moments.
4. Post-Production
After recording, we clean up the audio, sync it to the animation timeline, and do a full pass for consistency. The result is a seamless voice track that makes every panel hit harder.
